Band Blend Wine and Music!

Band blend started out when the band showed up for rehearsal as they normally did on one Thursday evening back in the mid 90's.As the band arrived they found Ted,  Joan, our children, their friends and myself hand crushing the remainder of the 200 gallons of fresh Zinfandel grapes we had picked earlier that day. The band members lent a hand crushing that evening before practice.  As a winemaker Joan's Brother Ted became increasingly interested in the flavors and colors of these awesome old vine Zinfandel grapes on our ranch and quickly came on board to help out as a wine maker.

As the wine developed we were convinced that we were on to something special here so Ted and I  began to experiment with different varietals and clones on the ranch. The soils profile is perfectly suited for deep rich colors and flavors as we are sitting on top of hot springs which warms the soil from the ground up giving us early ripening and never a frost threat. The Russian River once flowed through here as well leaving all the benefits of the cobble stones under ground for outstanding drainage and runoff.

Our passion grew into a way of life as opened the winery in 2002 with our first production of 400 cases for sale. Meanwhile the band members still thought that they had had something big to do with it so to keep them happy and out of the other barrels, Ted crafted their own barrel and wrote band blend on it in chalk and we gave them each their own jugs to fill from their own barrel before band practice. This wine quickly became somewhat of a local sensation so Ted crafted out 500 cases which we offered for sale primarily in the Little Vineyards tasting room and to our wine club family which was steadily growing in numbers.

Since then Band Blend has won Gold Medals and best of region medals. From our love of music came band blend wine. Thanks to everyone for helping to make this success story and Cheers to the music and wines of tomorrow!
